1. New York Rangers Options: Lafreniere/ Byfield/ Stutzle This one is a no brainer, Lafreniere is a “can’t miss prospect” who plays at 110% at all times even though that’s physically and mathematically impossible. Alex throws the body around, goes in the corners, can score, can set up teammates, and brings it defensively too. He’s a guy who drags others into the fight, not in the same way Matthew Tkachuk does, for Lafreniere it’s his energy and drive that is contagious. The only way Lafreniere ends up somewhere else is if a trade occurs, but with the Rangers never drafting higher than #2 (twice in their history, Kakko was their last #2 overall pick last year. They actually have picked 1st once before in the 1965 amateur draft drafting Andre Veilleux but haven’t picked 1st since the universal draft was adopted) I don’t see them trading the pick, especially not with Lafreniere involved.
